No cost and no card. Come see how we teach, then decide.

Players are grouped in fours by rating and play each other with 30-minute games. A friendly, low-stakes way for kids to get real tournament experience.

Hi, I'm Tim. My dad didn't think I'd be any good at chess.
He taught me when I was six, and at first he was right. I lost a lot. But I kept going to local meetups with him, learned from the players who beat me, and at 14 I won first place in my section at the Pacific Coast Open.
Since 2017 I've taught thousands of students in more than 30 schools. I started Masterpiece so kids in Santa Clarita have a real club, good coaching, and a place where losing is just part of learning.

Our Quad tournament on the last Saturday of each month gives kids a friendly way to compete.

Questions parents ask
Is the trial class really free?
Yes. No card, no catch. We'd rather your child tries a class and loves it than have you sign up for something you're unsure about.
My child has never played. Is that okay?
Yes. Tell us on the form and we'll put them in a group at their level.
What age is this for?
Our classes focus on kindergarten through 12th grade, and most of our students are in K to 6th grade. Tell us your child's age on the form and we'll recommend the right class.
What should my child bring?
Just themselves. We provide everything used in class.
How long is a class?
Classes run one hour.
What happens after the trial?
After class, the coach gives you a quick read on your child's level and what to work on next. If your child wants to keep going, we'll go over the options together. Monthly memberships start at $80 for one class a week. There's no pressure to decide on the spot.
